Who is Karyn Buggs? I am an observer of patterns, people and purpose. I want to live in a world where people think positively and make plans to live for a purpose.
Who I am didn’t begin when I made the choice to be an entrepreneur. I have been observing people since I was about four years old. This shaped my interest in understanding why people do what they do. My time in the corporate and non-profit world helped me to define and refine my planning and analytical skills in order to provide long-term solutions that could be immediately implemented.
Fast forward to parenting and real life. As a first-time mom to a 2 year old, there were times I needed a break from adulting to be a better parent but my employers only had sick days and vacation time. Neither of those applied to me. In my mind this was lying. Why would I take a sick day if I wasn’t sick. Why should I use my vacation time if I’m not going on vacation? Then, my mind started to wander into the future about all of her firsts and I couldn’t imagine not having the “time” to be there because I’d used it all.
So, I made a choice to have the freedom to choose to show up for us. I decided to become an entrepreneur. My first venture was real estate. Yep, 100% commission, no salary! It was sink or swim. What’s a girl to do when you go from a check twice a month to a check who knows when? I used the skills and resources from my time as an accountant to build my real estate business. Heck, I’d already written business plans, prepared financial projections, financial statements and performed audits. I knew the ins and outs of building a business. So, I created a plan and executed the plan.
This is what I did for every single business I have CEO’d over the past 20+ years as a full-time entrepreneur. It hasn’t been easy and there were times I’ve wanted to give up and go back into the workforce for a steady paycheck. Especially during those feast or famine moments. What I’d realized was that I’d stopped planning and forecasting the success I wanted to create.
I am happy to say, I still have the freedom to choose life’s most precious moments with family and friends.
My mission. The entrepreneurship industry has grown leaps and bounds since I started over 20 years ago. Sadly, so does the statistic of businesses that don’t last past 5 years. One of the biggest reasons for failed business is lack of understanding of business finances.
So about 13 months ago I decided that I would take my business online to have a bigger impact, to help online entrepreneurs create a business plan for them to have a plan to eliminate the feast or famine business model. What does that look like? It looks like having a conversation about what your goals are, what success look like, and then talking about what it is you offer in the marketplace.
It involves flipping your mindset from an employee, where you are told what to do, to a CEO, where you have the foresight and project what will be done. When you venture into entrepreneurship, you become the CEO. You become the person that now has to plan. You become the person that now has to strategize. You become the person responsible for growth and vision.
My commitment. As a fellow entrepreneur, educator and trusted advisor, I want to see you succeed on your terms. I want you to have the freedom to choose to be a part of life’s most precious moments. I want to help you plan for business success by properly pricing your product or service and creating a plan to increase your profits.
